ZANU PF RALLY "CRYING DOCTOR" IN HOT SOUP WITH DOCTORS' ASSOCIATION

The letter asking for the "crying doctor" to be suspended and disciplined by the Hospital Doctors' Association of Zimbabwe.

In a move that is set to strengthen VP Chiwenga and President Emmerson Mnangagwa's conviction that the Doctors' Association in Zimbabwe has been politicised and sympathises with the opposition, the medical doctor who broke down in tears in front of President Mnangagwa at a ZANU PF rally yesterday is facing disciplinary action from the Association.

In a letter to a Dr Tsopo, President of the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors' Association, several former ZHDA National Executive Council members are asking the Association to "suspend, investigate and, if found guilty, discipline Dr P. Mugoni", (now known all over Zimbabwe as "the crying doctor").

The charge is alleged charge is apparently "bringing the association into disrepute". And it is alleged that he broke the rules of conduct of Association office bearers by involving himself in partisan politics.

Vice President Chiwenga is on record as saying that the medical profession's associations were now being used for political purposes by some of its own leaders, leading to the ill-timed strike by medical doctors, which resulted in the getting the pay increases that made Dr Mugoni cry at the rally in Gweru yesterday as he publicly thanked President Mnangagwa.

I'd venture to say it is an ill-thought out move, which means that, even if action is not taken against the Association right now, will make it difficult for them to represent their members properly to government in future.

A incensed ZANU PF official says, "When the ZCTU publicly sides with the MDC of Nelson Chamisa, and even takes sides i the MDC-T fight between Chamisa and Khupe, these Unions and associations remain quiet. That is dabbling in partisan politics. Yet when a doctor, in his own persona capacity, thanks the ZANU PF government for heeding their plight, they treat him like a devil? This shows us that the Association itself is now partisan, actively campaigning against ZANU PF. We will see them after elections."
