Maybe it was just me, but internet connection went haywire in Zimbabwe yesterday. I could not load Blogger for the past 16 hours. My own connection went dead. Then when it came back, I could only access the Google search engine. Every other page gave me a "server busy" error message. Only a minute ago, I managed to access my blog by a very roundabout route. I wrote this post yesterday afternoon and just as I was about to upload it, internet connection went. Those are the vagaries of living in a country that has been thrown back to ancient times, I suppose. But I am sure if they had internet in Ancient Rome, it would have been a million times more efficient than this. Still, I suppose we should thank God for small mercies! That Mugabe's "mutiny" ruse is perfectly conceived is evidenced by the fact that so many people refuse to give him credit for being so diabolically clever. And those who are dismissing it will, I assure you, have egg on their faces before long. Putting aside questions of what investigations are needed to identify mutineers whose faces are on the front pages of newspapers from here to Kingdom Come, let us dig deeper and ask what exactly these predetermined "investigations" are supposed to achieve. Retired Major General George Chiweshe: accused of handing down death sentences to 16 of the "mutining" soldi er s A fib, an untrue story was published on 02 December 2008 by an online publication claiming that some soldiers who were part of the "rioting" in Harare over the last four days were executed in Dzivaresekwa on Monday night. Apparently the executions were a result of death sentences passed down by Retired Judge George Chiweshe, who is also head of Zimbabwe's Electoral Commission. First, the report, clearly cooked up, blundered by stating that the death warrants were signed by Mugabe just before midnight on Monday and the death sentences were immediately carried out. First of all, Mugabe was in Doha on Monday night. He only came back home on Wednesday. So he could not have signed those death warrants.
