It appears military intelligence have already estabised that a hand-held grenade was thrown at the president by someone on his left as he exited the VIP stage. Closely following him were VP Chiwenga and his wife, VP Mohadi and ZANU PF Chairperson Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri.

The President, who visited the injured in hospital with VP Chiwenga, was unhurt, as was the Vice-President.

Vice President Kembo Mohadi and Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri are said to have got the most serious injuries.

Bulawayo has remained calm, even as there is increased military and police presence on the streets.

Those in the VIP tent, closest to where the president was attacked, are also being questioned at the moment as efforts to quickly gather intelligence and evidence remain high.

Mnangagwa, together with Chiwenga, was immediately evacuated to Bulawayo State after the grenade attack as security swept and secured routes, before he was then driven to Mater Dei Hospital to visit the injured.

At Bulawayo State House, the president told his entourage that the incident had nothing to do with Bulawayo or Matabeleland. "We know who our enemies are and its not the people of Bulawayo. Maybe someone thought it would funny. This was the last place I was seen in public before being fired. They wanted it to be the last place I was seen alive as well!"

Vice President Chiwenga, who is also Minister of Defense, has asked military intelligence to lead the investigations before handing over any evidence or leads they may have to the police.

it would appear that there is still suspicion of the police force, primarily on the basis of competence, not loyalty.
