Scenes From The Opening Of Zimbabwe's Parliament on 06 October 2009
Harare, Zimbabwe, 06 October 2009
Very few people know this, but whenever Mugabe is inspecting the Guard of Honour or is walking in a public space, he has a habit of whistling to himself.
This has been going on since before he became Prime Minister in 1980 and then President in 1987.
It is, I think, a coping mechanism. Despite being seen in those early years as a "man of the people", he is apparently not comfortable when out in the open.
In one of the photos above, you can clearly see him whistling as he walks towards parliament for today's official opening.
Watch carefully from now on and you will see that whenever he is in situations like these, he tends to whistle to himself. Every time.
