The Curious Case Of Zimbabwe's Stolen Guns

Image
Harare, Zimbabwe, 04 December 2009 The MDC-T "transport manager", Pascal Gwezere is still languishing in Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison after the State pulled every trick in the book to block his release on US$50 bail as ordered by the High Court. Yet there are policemen and soldiers being tried and sentenced for the very same thing and in whose trials nothing is said about Gwezere. Although he is said to have had named accomplices, none of these have been apprehended. The State simply threatens that it has several witnesses ready to testify against Gwezere. He stands accused of stealing 21 AK 47 rifles from Pomona Barracks in Harare. It is now understood that the witnesses are the so-called accomplices who have turned on Gwezere. They will implicate him as the ring leader of the plot and they will not be charged with any crime as reward. It's like in the Mafia movies, where a low-level operative is given immunity by the State in return for bringing in the Big Fish. Bi...

Four Escape Death As ZANU PF Goes On The Rampage In Mashonaland Central

Image
Jabulani Sibanda (left as you look at the picture), seen here with self-styled Commander of Farm Invasions, Joseph Chinotimba, presided over a meeting in rural Zimbabwe where orders were issued to kill all MDC office bearers in the area. MDC officials have now fled the province and are being houses in safe houses in Harare, too scared to go back, after their homes were raided by gun-totting gangs the night of the meeting. Harare, Zimbabwe, 19 November 2009 On Friday 13 November, just a few days ago, Jabulani Sibanda, the leader of War veterans in Zimbabwe, held a meeting at Chawarura Business Centre in the rural ZANU PF stronghold of Muzarabani. It was resolved at the meeting to kill all MDC officials in Mashonaland Central province. The meeting was also attended by Chief Chiweshe as well as a District Administrator from the area, identified today as Mike Mazai (eggs). That very night, around midnight, six men, two of them heavily armed, stormed the home of the MDC Muzarabani District ...

Mugabe Approach To Dabengwa On Vice President Post Causes Havoc In ZANU PF

Image
Mugabe at the burial of Vice President Joseph Msika: the president's reluctance to appoint John Nkomo to the post of VP, which led to him considering Dumiso Dabengwa for the post, is now very apparent within ZANU PF, which has led to a free-for-all, with all sorts of jokers throwing their names into the ring in the hope of catching Mugabe's eye. There is only one other name Mugabe has mentioned besides Dabengwa's as a possible candidate. The rest are simply trying their luck, knowing that they will not be penalised for challenging Nkomo. Harare, Zimbabwe, 30 October 2009 When we broke the story about Mugabe's approach to Dumiso Dabengwa to consider the Vice-presidential post made vacant by the death of Joseph Msika, we also revealed that the Zimbabwean president was not too keen on John Nkomo, who should rightly take over the post as the most senior remaining ZAPU leader within the ZANU PF structures. Other members of ZAPU who have remained in ZANU PF have been embolden...
