MDC/ZANU PF Talks On Verge Of Collapse

Image
The talks to brea the impasse in Zimbabwe's coalition are bogged down, with ZANU PF resorting to legalistic arguments to get out of their obligations. This is despite the SADC Troika meeting stating that the talks must be held in order to meet not just the letter, but also "the spirit" behind the agreement that governs the Inclusive Government in Zimbabwe. Harare, Zimbabwe 25 November 2009 Negotiators from ZANU PF and the two MDC formations are struggling to find common ground, it has emerged, with indications being that the talks to resolve the impasse that led to Morgan Tsvangirai "disengaging from ZANU PF" are stuck on who has responsibility for which outstanding issues. The Inclusive Government of Morgan Tsvangirai and Robert Mugabe had been given the deadline of 15 November to start talking and another deadline of November 30 to finish the talks. Jacob Zuma, the South African President had been scheduled to come to Zimbabwe to be updated on progress this w...

Zimbabwe Government Goes After The Internet

Image
Harare, Zimbabwe, 19 September 2009 The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ), has issued a public statement notifying the country that there will be no more licences issued for Internet Access Service Providers in Zimbabwe. The Authority, which is supposed to be under Nelson Chamisa, has been snatched back by Robert Mugabe and given to Nicholas Goche of ZANU PF. What the government is trying to do here is to ensure that the small number of ISPs in Zimbabwe are put in a pen and then they will be tightly controlled. Already, there is a law that requires ISPs to spy on their customers' emails and to hand these over to government at a moment's notice. Failure to put in the spying equipment means that the ISP could lose their licence. Hence, as the noose tightens around the ISPs currently operating, you will see a lot of them fall by the wayside. The end result that Mugabe and his men would like to see would be a situation where only one big govern...

"Police Are Corrupt" - ZANU PF Minister

Image
Nicholas Goche (above) is a senior minister in Mugabe's ZANU PF and has now come out openly to accuse the police of corruption. Perhaps he is unaware who it is that has encouraged that corruption in the police force. Next time he meets Mugabe or Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri, he should ask them and I am sure they will tell him. Tsvangirai also added his voice to that of Goche, which is just yet more proof that today's speeches were mere politicking and not informed by any principle or plan of action Harare, Zimbabwe, 27 August 2009 Yes, this is noteworthy and newsworthy in itself. One of Mugabe's most senior ministers and a ZANU PF negotiator in the process that led to the formation of the limping Coalition Government in Zimbabwe, Nicholas Goche, has publicly accused the police and vehicle inspection department (VID) of corruption at a Stakeholders' Conference held in Harare today. The conference was a Road Transport Stakeholders Conference on Disaster M...
